This theory identifies distinct types of intelligences, or sets of skills and competencies which allow individuals to learn and display their intellectual abilities:ġ. To me, the way the characters in BSD use their different strengths and abilities to fight their battles is a comforting reminder that everyone is strong and intelligent in their own way. I wanted to describe these different intelligences and decided to refer to a theory of multiple intelligences proposed by Howard Gardner, intended to describe how individuals possess different capabilities and capacities to learn, understand, and solve problems. At the same time, it provides some sort of personal reassurance that everyone thrives differently, and possesses different skills and capacities that are equally valuable. I think one thing that makes BSD such a comfort to read and think about is the fact that the cast is so diverse, and there is something to appreciate about every character.
